Young Entrepreneurs
It never ceases to amaze me when I hear about young entrepreneurs. You know the ones I am talking about, “Suzy starts her own lemonade stand and makes $10,000 in her first year”, or “the young man that developed his own candle line.” I always think, “if they can do it, so can I”. Yet I still am not where they are at in my business, at this present time. Were these young people born with success in their genes? Possibly brought up in a home of a successful parent who is also a successful business person? I think it is awesome, and yet it still intrigues me.
Man-Cans
This guy was only 13 years old when he came up with his idea of Man-Cans! His sister was selling candles for a fundraiser and he wondered why candles weren’t sold with men in mind. This started something that he didn’t realize would get so big. He uses soup cans and donates the soup inside to a local soup kitchen. As of writing this they have donated over 30,000 meals. His scent right now for Father’s Day is Memphis Style BBQ. His business started in November 2010, so he is still a young entrepreneur as he can’t be more than 15 at this time.
Marketing Guru
Not as young as the candle guy, but still quite young to have a $12 million business! Michael Mothner is the CEO of wpromote.com. This is a SEO based business it. Wpromote is based in El Segundo, Calif.. He has 62 employees providing PPC, SEO, web development and social media advertising to 2,300 clients, including Hewlett-Packard. It had $8.5 million in sales for 2009 and expects to book at least $12 million to $13 million this year. Plus, Mothner plans to run Wpromote as if he will own it forever!
To be a young entrepreneur is something that would be awesome! But even if you aren’t one, doesn’t mean you can’t build a business that will enable you to be your own boss and an entrepreneur!
