In my last post I talked about ‘my’ work from home and a few ideas I have done in the past. One I didn’t mention was I was a Tupperware consultant, then leader for a few years. My only problem was whatever I made, I spent…on Tupperware. I remember when we moved from the Army back home, I had 5, no kidding 5 large boxes of Tupperware. It is important when you sell something, you believe in it. I say this because if you don’t use it, it is very hard, in my opinion to sell it.
Tupperware is just 1 of many ‘work-at-home’ avenues you can choose from. I did Tupperware before they started having personal websites, which is an even more exciting thing to me!
So what other options are there for Work-from-Home? There is Avon, Mary Kay, Scentsy, Thirty-One, Ava Anderson Non Toxic, Advocare, and Paparazzi Jewelry, just to name a few. The wonderful thing about working from home is you can set your schedule around your children, your main job (if you work outside of the home), school activities, and your partners schedule.
Important Things to Remember When Starting Your At-Home Business:
- Treat it like a business: this just means that you want to invest X amount of hours a day, or week into this new business.
- When you are marketing a product; market yourself first. When I was selling candles a good friend online said-”Don’t sell candles, market YOU”. and I have never forgotten that.
- Do NOT max out your credit cards in order to build your business. You might have to start out small but in the long run you will be better off.
- Learn as much as you possibly can. My friend Ms. Google has helped me a lot in my business. Learn how to search the right question “how to” , “how to fix”, marketing helps, etc. Asking /Searching the right question will unveil a wealth of knowledge (especially in this day and age).
- If it is too good to be true; it probably is.
- Surround yourself with people of like minds (who are trying to achieve success). Search Facebook Groups in your area that you are learning about.

There are many other avenues of business you can explore, remember, I just touched on a few. Unlike my last post these are more work-at-home business that already have a business plan, a structure, a criteria. These businesses you are still what I called “self-employed” but there are rules to follow, and usually quotas to be made. My other post mentioned business(es) I have ran myself, I was my own boss. The above businesses you are still ‘self-employed’ but you are selling their products for a commission. I have seen many people run a Tupperware business, for instance, where THAT is their only job. They pay their mortgages, cars and more alone on their income; they are in my opinion VERY successful. So this is another option (the businesses up above) to enable yourself to work-at-home.
I will welcome those that want to add their business in my comments section. I just need a link, name of company if it is not listed.
Stay Tuned for Work-at-Home Part III……

Great article Becky! I didn’t realize you used to sell Tupperware. I have been a Tupperware Director for over 5 years. I own way too much Tupperware too, but hey I love the product.
Until the past year I made a full time income from home solely with Tupperware & have also earned a free car and several free trips so yes it absolutely can be done. I was shy with no confidence and unemployed when I started my direct sales business and I wouldn’t trade all the wonderful experiences, rewards, confidence and friendships my direct sales business has given me for anything! In the past year I decided to take a step back and work the business more part time while pursuing other interests, but I plan to go back to full time later on. I love that I have the flexibility to do that and that this business allowed me to become a CEO of Me. Would love if you would include my Tupperware link in your post too. http://twmisty.com Thanks so much!

Great article and well written. I have seen people be wildly successful at these home business opps as well…just like you said, networking is a big thing and putting yourself out there so that people can get to know your product is another. (Love Tupperware Too)
Thank you Jen for your kind words! I agree-people that work it-achieve it!
Becky, Thanks for the great article! I have tried several direct sales companies over the years but failed miserably. I have done quite a bit of research on direct sales companies and I finally found one I really feel good about. I love selling Paparazzi Jewelry. Being priced at only $5 each, the products sell themselves. I really appreciate you including me in your article. Of course, as with any business, you should definitely like what you do-and you definitely get out of it what you put into it.

Great article, I am still trying to figure the work from home field. I am doing a huge fundraiser this weekend and donating 100% of my commission to the fund. I am really excited and really hoping to get my name out right now. Working a full time day job and trying to blog and Scentsy keeps me busy. Thanks for listing me

Thanks Becky for the advice! I have only been selling scentsy since the fall and I enjoy doing it, but I know if I want to really make money I have to do a lot more than I am doing–ugh! Too many great things to get involved in. Thanks for linking to my scentsy site Light Your World!!
You are welcome Diane~!
Becky,
I have sold Pampered Chef for almost 17 years and everything you said is so true. Another thing I have found is that when you work your business is flexible but not optional. To be successful you must treat it like a business if that is what you want it to be. For some people it is just a hobby and that is fine, but if you really want to make money at it you have to put the time into it. Thanks again for including me in your business listings. Jenny
Thank you Jenny- you are very right- “to be successful you must treat it like a business”… very well put!
“When you are marketing a product; market yourself first.” I will bear this in my mind forever. It’s just right, because you need to have a lot of contacts and potential buyers in order for your business to grow.
